The Adventures of Her is a collection of true stories about growing up between Washington, D.C. and Prince George’s County in the 1990s—a time when friendships were everything, adventures happened without a camera recording them, and getting home before the streetlights came on was sometimes the only plan.

Funny, reckless, tender, and sometimes unbelievable, these are the memories of the girl she was before she understood the woman she would become.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Before we knew better, we just lived.

The Adventures of Her is a collection of true stories from a girl growing up between Washington, D.C. and Prince George’s County in the 1990s—a time when friendships were everything, adventures happened without a camera recording them, and getting home before the streetlights came on was sometimes the only plan.

Funny, reckless, tender, and sometimes unbelievable, these are the memories of the girl she was before she fully understood the woman she would become.

Some stories were fun. Some were reckless. And some… she probably shouldn’t be telling at all.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cheryce T. Ledbetter is a Washington, D.C. native whose stories are rooted in the places, people, friendships, and experiences that shaped her. Growing up between Washington, D.C. and Prince George’s County, Maryland, she came of age during the 1990s—a time she remembers as equal parts freedom, foolishness, friendship, and fun.

A wife and mother of five, Cheryce has spent much of her adult life building a family, raising her children, and making memories with the people she loves most. She is deeply involved in her children’s lives and believes some of life’s best memories are made by simply showing up for the everyday moments.

Through all of those years, she never forgot the stories of the girl she used to be. The ones that still make her laugh. The ones she can’t believe actually happened. And even a few she probably should’ve kept to herself.

Those memories became The Adventures of Her, her debut book and a love letter to growing up, friendship, and the kind of childhood that existed before cell phones recorded everything. Through her writing, Cheryce invites readers into those moments exactly as she remembers them—funny, imperfect, sometimes reckless, and completely hers.

And she’s already thinking about which story she’s brave enough to tell next.
